So with just over four days to go till

we kick off the UK indie Showcase tour at the 100 club, we give you an insight into what its like from in the back room, ensuring thats this is a great night, at one of the best venues in the UK for live Music.

On Thursday night, we will arrive on Oxford Street and walk down those famous steps into that long narrow space that is the 100 Club, last time I was there it was 1983, playing with a band supporting the UK Subs, in what seems like somone elses lifetime ago.

Most if not all the the band members on the bill tonight were yet to appear on this world stage at that time or if they did they were overdosing on farleys rusks and baby food or happy watching playaway. Boy I feel old- but experienced Ha HA

We all read of how its difficult for unsigned bands to get gigs, we read of rubbish promoters who are lazy, of rip off venues, of Pay to play schemes, and how pay to play ruins music. So why is this any different- Well it is all NOT FOR PROFIT and finaced by us, because we love music and belive that some bands deserve a chance, not all, it has to be earned, and hard work is not always enough.

Five bands, all picked by us, get the chance to play the world famous 100 Club and have a platform to spotlight thier talent at one of the most prestigous UK live music venues in one of the coolests cities on the planet.

So we Picked;

We chose these bands as they all have talent, passion and a unique style in thier own genre - Rock, Indie, Electro Pop, Indie Pop Folk and more- Get down and support them, we will share with you our thoughts, trials and stresses of the next few days as we get ready for this gig. See you there

Featuring four of the brightest new bands from the South East and beyond live at the world famous 100 Club. “An eclectic mix of independent music”. This night of live music, inspired and shaped by the DIY sprit and ethos of Tony Wilson and Malcolm McLaren, sees Independent bands work together in the spirit of co-operation to present a night of cutting edge new music at a venue that has previously hosted seminal live performances from the likes of; Bo Didley, The Who, The Kinks, Sex Pistols, The Clash, Oasis & Sonic Youth.

VIOLET BONES

VIOLET BONES are a four piece rock 'n' roll band from Cambridge. Rik (Guitar), Oz (Drums), Stu (Bass) and Si (Vocals) pack an incredible amount of passion, energy, animation and spirit into their sing-along garage-pop anthems. Their fierce DIY ethic and constant touring across the UK has earned them support slots with punk heroes New York Dolls and Ash. On home turf their following is loyal and raucous.

Violet Bones spent 2010 self-releasing singles and touring hard including a well received show at In The City 2010. The songs and the shows scored well with the media and audiences alike.

With strong support from BBC Cambridgeshire and a host of fanzines and local radio stations, previous single I Feel The Need was at No. 1 on the Pre-Order Chart at Play.com for weeks.
BBC Introducing asked the band to do a BBC Masterclass, and put them forward to play Glastonbury 2011. Violet Bones will also be appearing at The Great Escape Festival in May.

THE SCREENING

Energetic Leicester quartet, The Screening, unleash their latest serving of unadulterated indie pop rock with their new single ‘You Look Much Better In The Dark’, through Telescope Records on October 18th. Following on from their past single, ‘Diem’, the band offer up more of their signature brand of catchy, synth-led indie pop. The blazing new single ‘You Look Much Better In The Dark’ sees the tale of waking up with someone quite unexpected unfold through their humorous yet refreshingly truthful lyrics.

Already making waves on the Leicester scene, the band have made fans of Steve Lamacq and their hometown hero Tom Meighan of Kasabian, as well as being praised by the music press including the NME and Drowned in Sound.

‘You Look Much Better In The Dark’ saw The Screening work with world-renowned producer Mark Needham (We Are Scientists, Bloc Party, The Killers. The band will head out to LA once more to work alongside him and finish off their debut album, ‘We’d All Better Learn How To Swim’ expected in March 2011. In support of their latest single, the Leicester boys will be taking to the road for a series of UK dates. In the words of Tom Meighan ‘they really put a shift in live’ so these dates are definitely not to be missed.

THE HANS COMMISSION

The Hans Commission combine classic rock riffs with lead synths to create a contemporary sound with a retro edge.

Based in London, The Hans Commission have been gigging the London scene for two years, including prestigious venues such as 333 Mother Bar Old Street, The Fly Bar Camden, Zigfrid Underbelly Hoxton & 93 East, Shoreditch. Additionally they have also made an impact in Manchester at The Roadhouse. Their objective for 2011 is to take The Hans Commission national, and their plan is to gig nationwide.

Alex Surguy provides lead vocals and synths, he has a strong, deep vocal and a charismatic stage persona that gives the band its great stage presence. Alex has appeared in videos alongside U2, The Rolling Stones and Soulwax. As well as playing the famous KOKO Club with previous band Veto Silver. Daniel Towle’s fast and intricate riffs on lead guitar, embellish the sound and give it a current feel. He worked as a session musician in Manchester before moving to London to form The Hans Commission.

Bringing a commanding rhythm to the band is Tom Ollis on drums, son of legendary Terry Ollis from Hawkwind. Tom has learnt many tricks from his father, and has played Glastonbury twice.

Put them together and they provide a fusion of electro pop and indie rock that oozes style, attitude and commercial appeal. Already a hit in the Road Runner Alternative Rock Charts, The Hans Commission made it to number 1 just two days after being uploaded to the site, while a new publishing deal should see their songs being made available on the major download sites before very long. Beginning with the highly anticipated release of their debut EP “Ruling Margins”.

Were looking for 4 or 5 acts for each bill to play a 30 minute showcase of your talents. What you will get is full promotion, support and help to play a fantastic gig and showcase your music at one of the UKs leading music venues, A full professional photo shoot will be provided and all PA, lights venue support will be provided.

Whats the catch- there is not one- all we ask is you try your best to organise a small crowd to see what could be your most high profile performance to date. No ticket sales required or demanded, just an honest efort to organise your fan base to make a trip to one of these two presitigous venues.

History of the Band on the Wall

The Punk explosion happened in the late 1970s. Mondays soon became known as New Manchester Review nights providing a focus and support for a local political and music magazine of the time. Bands who played under this title included John Cooper Clarke, The Passage, A Certain Ratio, Joy Division (who played the night they first got a syn-drum)

The Buzzcocks

The Fall, Buzzcocks, John the Postman and The Distractions. Mark E Smith of The Fall was a strong supporter of the Monday night venture. Big In Japan played on Monday 13 February 1978 and whilst the name is not so well known they included future well-known musicians Jayne Casey (of Cream nightclub, Liverpool), Ian Brodie of The Lightning Seeds, Holly Johnson of Frankie Goes to Hollywood and Bill Drummond, manager of the Teardrop Explodes and later a member of KLF.

Band on the Wall is a not-for-profit venue run by registered charity Inner City Music. We exist to present the best music from around the world and support our main stage events with a dynamic education programme which operates throughout the year. The brand new band on the wall now boasts state of the art sound and light systems and touted as one of the best intimate size live msuic venuesin the UK.

History of the 100 Club

The most celebrated live music venue in Europe and one of the most famous in the world. Its longevity is due to an open minded music policy which has seen many different musical styles performed at this venue over It's long history.

The Clubs heritage is legendary and has seen performances from acts as diverse as The Sex Pistols, Muddy Waters, Hugh Masekela, Lee Konitz, Oasis, Lonnie Donnegan, Jimmy McGriff and Travis to The Clash,The White Stripes, Yank Lawson, Sinead O'Conner, Nico, Chris Barber and Beverly Knight, to name but a few. With Artists like The Rolling Stones, Joe Strummer, The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, Paul Weller, Ocean Colour Scene returning to play long after they were established.

Vote For Your Band Now - Play the Corn exchange get on the 23 Track CD released October at ITC

Music fans from across Cambridge and the UK can now have their say as to who will play the prestigous corn exchange infront of up to 1000 fans on January 17th 2009.

Seven Bands, including at least Five East of England (Cambridge) bands & Special International Guests will get to play at the cambridge corn exchange with a full PA and Lights crew, plus a professional photo shoot of each band.

The bands are chosen by a panel of seven made up of local music fans, friends and family of Tom Jones and local music promoters including FMS promotions. Judges will nominate their seven best bands to play the corn exchange plus 23 of the best music to appear on the 23 Track Teenage Kicks CD, released in October that will be showcased at the International Music Convention (ITC) 5th-7th October. Each Judge has seven votes. the peoples vote also counts as one vote- The bands most favoured by the panel and the people- get to play.

You the fans also get to have your say and we have this year reintroduced the popular "Peoples Vote". Vote for your seven top bands to appear on the bill at the corn exchange. You can take a vote below- do it now tell a friend.

Each Judge has seven votes. the peoples vote also counts as one vote- The bands most favoured by the panel and the people- get to play.

This years search for the best of cambridges unsigned bands plus international special guests is drawing to a close, you have till midnight 30th july to get in touch with us and let us kno wif your intersted in playing in front of 1000 fans at the world famous Cambridge Corn exchange on January 17th 2009.

Now in its Third year Teenage Kicks is a celebration of unsigned music and is dedicated to the memory of Tom Jones (Inkus) who was an amazingly talented bass player in a rising indie/pop/punk band, before he tragically died as the result of a hit and run car uncident aged just 17. His spirit lives on in music.

This project also raises money for the Huntingdon Multiple Sclerosis therapy center and we have raised over $8,000 so far from the concert proceeds and CD and DVD sales.
